Shawn Rana is a proven leader with 36 years of experience in managing significant projects in the energy and chemical sectors, especially those involving hydrogen and ammonia. He has consistently delivered results, surpassing financial targets while guiding companies toward stable and sustainable growth. His expertise includes forming and leading operational teams focused on safety, performance, environmental care, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness. He is one of the few professionals who have both developed large-scale hydrogen and ammonia projects and managed the most extensive ammonia production facilities in the United States. Shawn is known in the industry for building lasting partnerships and encouraging collaboration across teams. His work spans traditional, blue, and green hydrogen, as well as ammonia and related derivatives. He was one of five professionals who combined two major nitric acid groups into one conference that continues today. He led the development of the first greenfield ammonia and urea facility in the country in 25 years and the first such project in Nebraska since the 1970s. Since 1998, Shawn has hosted career days to promote STEM education and continues to support these efforts in Nebraska. His career has covered all phases of project development from early planning to full operations, including power purchase agreements, technology selection, EPC contracts, construction, and plant management. He has completed four major hydrogen and ammonia projects across the U.S., each ranging from $100 million to $3 billion, including a fully green ammonia facility and one of the world’s largest blue hydrogen and ammonia plants. As Project Director, Shawn led the vision and execution of a green hydrogen and ammonia plant, managing feasibility, permits, energy sourcing, and budgeting, with total estimated costs of nearly $400 million. As President of a Nebraska-based operation, he launched and managed a $100 million ammonia plant, overseeing all departments and securing key agreements and incentives. He also managed a $3 billion project and held senior leadership roles in related industries. His work has been published in national and regional outlets. He holds a mechanical engineering degree and has completed advanced training in leadership and technical disciplines. Shawn Rana continues to lead efforts in energy innovation and clean ammonia development.
